Right, so we're playing post-apoc Universalis at The Source on 7 February 2010. We have no expectations about whether we'll play more than once -- but I hope so.

This game was planned with Shane, Paul, Erik, Steve and myself. Anyone else interested in getting some Uni on?

  2.

Would anyone object to Garrett playing? I'm not sure if he would want to, but I figured I'd ask y'all before asking him.

I'm fine with Garrett joining us.

I was wondering - I've got the second edition, but it looks like the latest edition is the revised edition - is there a place I can get the changes?
  3.

I think there was a thread (maybe stickied) at The Forge where Ralph outlined the changes. But I don't have the new edition, so I don't mind playing the original.

I don't have either edition, so I am fine with whichever.

    No objections to Garrett playing.

Oh, and I will be leaving early on the 7th since the Super Bowl Party I thought I might be invited to, is ON thanks to the Vikings loss.
  4.

Cathy is sick with a fever and fatigue and stuff. If she's substantially better tomorrow, then I'll see you there. If not, I'll have to cancel. But we do have a table reserved so you might as well play without me. I'll post again tomorrow as early as I can with more definite plans.

Well, another one of us had some sporting party for the Stanley Cup today and was going to have to leave early or something, right? Personally, waking up at the unwholesome hour of 11am (aka "the witching hour") to go biking out in -7C is something I can be persuaded to put off a week or more until it's a better time for you guys.

I'll check back when my alarm goes off and if there's nothing else here, though, I'll assume we're just going to go ahead and I'll be at the Source.
  5.

I won't be able to make it. Cathy needs to go to urgent care and I'll either be driving her, etc or taking care of kids.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

I might still be able to make it, but I won't know for sure for a couple of days. In any case, there's no reason to skip it just cause I can't make it. It's not like I'll need to create a character for it or anything.

Sorry I missed the latest flurry, Valentines Day wasn't really on the table for me, I guess I just assumed we'd be waiting at least two weeks from the date I finked out on.

Is Steve the only person for whom the 21st is bad? I think that if even two of us are not available, we should wait. On the other hand, I'd like to play *something* and if even two of you in addition to me are available, we should get together. I'll try to call The Source later today and see about a table.

    Excellent!
  20.
I did some not very rigorous research about meteor/comet strikes based on our conversation about the causal events for our game.

Looks like the average preatmospheric velocity of meteroids is 18 mi/s. Interstellar meteors are expected to be greater than 26 mi/s. Sungrazing commets are observed travelling at 300 mi/s. Shoemaker-Levy 9 was a bunch of rocks travelling around 37 mi/s -- the largest was at most 2 km across and whacked Jupiter with energy equivalent to 600 times the Earth's nuclear arsenal.

Also, it's hard to find anything solid, but based on what I'm reading, I'm not *at all* sure that humans would detect a large, dark rock with anything approaching real time to prepare.

So, given the variety of possible impact event scenarios (essentially no warning is equally plausible with several months of warning), the story-needs should dictate how much preparation the people made.

And I couldn't find any stats about the caloric volume of canned food on-hand in the US.

The Attorney General of Powder takes the newcomers through the entrance ritual and takes Major and Lars to his office while the rest of the patrol goes to the bars in town. He explains to Major that Andy has become a part of this town by 'sharing their warmth' and he cannot be extradited so easily. He also speaks with Lars about the his radio (which Lars has been claiming is broken so that Major does not suspect that he is reporting on his actions to WFFS). It is mentioned that the Geoff High Electonicist would love to look at it. As this is happening, Charlie is seen looking in the window, shocked to see Major. He runs off.
Geoff looks at the radio and wants to start 'fixing' it, claiming authority because of his age and experience with electronics. Lars will not let Geoff touch the radio and has to forcefully take it away from him. Geoff goes back to the Attorney's office and tells Major that the radio has been working fine. Lars quickly breaks the radio and brings it back to the office.
Andy comes into the office and trys to provoke Major into doing something violent, so that Major would violate local mores. Major doesn't and the Attorney stops things from escalating because it is wrong to shed powder in town. The matter of the murders will be looked into, but Andy and Major are to be isolated so that they cannot influence witnesses. The people in town have seen Andy acting threatening toward Major, and the mounted patrol soldiers have been talking about Major's behavior.

-Townspeople recover the bodies that have been shot
-Lars calls back info on what happened to WFFS
Eariler in Hampton, Major is on trial for the murder of five Hamptonites. Elder Michaels is presiding and Andy is standing with the elders voting. Major is tied up in the judgment pit while the elders are standing around, their bullets standing in front of them, each bullet a vote. Lars is testifying that the wounds could not have been done by Major because he never wields any weapon other than his maul, and the wounds are not consistent with that weapon. While being questioned, Major accuses Andy of stealing his bullets, which elicits a strong reaction from the elders, since stealing a bullet is taboo in this town. Andy sees how that will end and shoots his way out of town, killing a mountie, Elder Michaels, and three other elders in the confused gunfight, and getting hit himself. Major murders the last remaining elder and grabs some bullets. The townspeople carefully gather the bodies of those that have been shot.

-- Geoff demonstrates his artifact to Attorney, who is electrocuted.

When the trial begins, Geoff proves that electricity can provide warmth by electrocuting Attorney. Lars, Charlie, and the Mounties testify, and Major is convicted and is to be sent back to WFFS. Geoff wasn't officially assigned to steal the radio - He just decided that it would be a good way to redeem himself. Even if he were to get it, there's a good chance that the citizens of Powder wouldn't believe his statements about how the electricity redeemed him.
